Update on Severe Tropical Storm Uwan amid PH being under National State of Calamity

UWAN – The severe tropical storm is now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) but may re-enter the Philippines on Wednesday, November 12.

The entire Philippines is currently under a national state of calamity as declared by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The President approved the proposal of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) to place the country under a national state of calamity due to typhoon Tino and then-looming super typhoon.

Typhoon Fung Wong locally named as Uwan entered the PAR and intensified until it became a super typhoon and brought massive rains to several regions in Luzon and Visayas. With prior forecasts that it can become a super typhoon, all the government agencies were placed under “full alert” status.

Currently, Uwan is already outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility and has weakened into a severe tropical storm. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, it may re-enter the PAR on Wednesday, November 12.

  • Northern and Central Cagayan including Babuyan Islands
  • Apayao
  • Abra

Uwan was located west northwest of Calayan, Cagayan at 10 a.m. today. It is moving north westwards. According to Palace press officer undersecretary Claire Castro, Pres. Bongbong Marcos is satisfied with the preparations against the former super typhoon.

“‘Yung mga paghahanda po na ipinapakita ng mga agencies na nakakapagsagip ng mga tao mula sa peligro, nakikita po ng Pangulo ang magandang ginagawa ng ating mga ahensya,” Castro said.

However, amid the natural calamities in the Philippines, there were rumors that some local officials were allegedly in other countries while their provinces and cities were battered by the typhoons. Recently, Malacañang spoke on Marcos Jr.’s stand over the local officials’ “chill” approach towards their duties.
