Palace Speaks on Side of Marcos Jr. over Rumored Overseas Trips of Local Officials during Typhoons
MARCOS JR. – Malacañang expressed that the President dislikes the “chill” approach of local officials towards their duties.
Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro was disappointed that the province was flooded despite the P26 billion flood control funds. According to her, the flood control projects in Cebu since 2019 were either ghost or substandard. She claimed that they already submitted a report to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).

Malacañang previously claimed that Marcos Jr. is also angry over the massive flooding in Cebu. The Palace called on the Governor to cooperate with the administration over the matter. However, aside from the massive flooding in the province, there is another thing that did not sit well with many people — the alleged overseas trips of some of the government officials during the wrath of typhoon Tino and super typhoon “Uwan”.
Countless residents in Cebu were left homeless by the calamity. There are currently rumors that during the height of Tino’s devastation, at least 7 mayors and a board member from Cebu were allegedly in the United Kingdom.

Furthermore, Isabela Governor Rodolfo “Rodito” Albano III was confirmed to be in Germany when super typhoon “Uwan” battered his province. Several officials in other cities were allegedly out of the country during the recent calamities. Malacañang spoke about the side of Marcos Jr.

Based on a report on GMA News, Malacañang press officer undersecretary Claire Castro claimed that Marcos Jr. dislikes the local government officials being on a “chill” approach towards their duties. She stressed that the LGU officials should be working for the people who rely to the government most especially during times of natural disasters.
“Unang-una, sa Pangulo, hindi po niya gusto na ang mga liderato ay chill-chill lang. Dapat ang trabaho ay para sa taumbayan kasi umaasa po sila sa gobyerno, lalo na sa ganitong klaseng sitwasyon,” the Palace official said.

Atty. Claire Castro also stressed that local officials should not always be on a “chill” mode. Based on the report, she emphasized that working should come first not vacationing.
“Hindi puwedeng sabihin na chill-chill lang palagi. Dapat trabaho, hindi bakasyon,” the Malacañang press officer said.
