Bela Padilla Did Not Mince Words Replying To Lawmaker, Mentioning Slater Young

Here’s the post of Bela Padilla that earned attention online.

ABS-CBN actress Bela Padilla has replied to the post of Pangasinan Congressman Mark Cojuangco and mentioned Slater Young.

With two typhoons, Typhoon Tino and Super Typhoon Uwan, striking the Philippines just days apart, many people are still reeling from the devastation they left behind. Amid the controversy surrounding flood control projects, the public can’t help but wonder what could have been—if only the funds meant to safeguard communities had truly helped reduce the damage caused by the powerful cyclones.

In Cebu, severe flooding was triggered by Typhoon Tino, and many blamed the Monterrazas De Cebu project of Slater Young. For many years now, this project has sparked debate about its environmental impacts since it is built on the slope of a mountain, which means building would mean cutting down trees and deforming the mountain.

It was the worst flooding in Cebu, and residents of Barangay Guadalupe and nearby communities at the foot of the mountain blamed the development for intensifying floods during the onslaught of the typhoon. Young remained silent amid the ongoing renewed buzz regarding his project.

Recently, amid the victims’ pleas for help following the calamities, Pangasinan Congressman Mark Cojuangco shared a post online that seemingly blamed the people. In his post, he wrote, “Bakit kasi sa flood plain gumawa ng tirahan? Takaw sakuna.”

This post went viral, and in reply to this, actress Bela Padilla criticized it. Her response was, “Respectfully, you don’t start giving swimming lessons to a drowning man, sir. You save him first.”

She added, asking why the LGUs did not even stop the people from building their homes there. Padilla stated that common folks won’t know for sure where to do this. Her response ended with a brief yet firm shot at Young, and it stated, “Why didn’t the LGUs stop them from building there in the first place? Common folk don’t know where they can or can’t build. I mean-look at Slater Young.”

Meanwhile, based on a previous report, a Cebu Congressman was criticized online after putting his face and name on the relief goods distributed to the victims of the calamities. During the typhoon onslaught in Cebu, the congressman was allegedly in London, and his wife, DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco, explained that they were in London as part of the Philippine delegation for World Travel Market.
