Gladys Reyes Shares Unforgettable Moment w/ Judy Ann Santos: “Mas masakit siyang manampal!”
GLADYS REYES – It turns out Judy Ann Santos isn’t just powerful in drama — according to Gladys Reyes, her slaps pack a serious punch both on-screen and off!
Veteran actress Gladys Reyes, famously known as the La Primera Contravida of Philippine entertainment, recently talked about her dream role and her memorable moments with longtime friend Judy Ann Santos. Even after spending decades in the industry, Gladys admitted that there are still certain roles she hopes to portray in the future.
During the Star Magic Spotlight press conference, Gladys revealed her wish to take on a more complex and layered role. “Parang gusto ko rin ‘yung mala-Gone Girl. So may pagkabida-kontrabida. Ayoko nu’ng totally bida o pinaka-villain so, bida-kontrabida,” she said.

Gladys Reyes referred to the film Gone Girl, which revolves around a mysterious case of a missing wife and the suspicion directed toward her husband. Gladys also mentioned her admiration for movies like Vilma Santos’ Tagos ng Dugo, expressing her desire to explore revenge-themed stories.
On a more personal note, Gladys shared that she dreams of portraying someone with autism — a role inspired by her brother PJ, who has special needs. “Because I have a brother who has special needs, si PJ, so, meron akong brother who has autism. So, gusto ko mag-portray also na a person with autism because firsthand kasama ko siya sa bahay… Alam ko kung ano ‘yung mga mannerism niya, paano siya magsalita, paano ‘yung behavior niya,” she explained.
The actress also reflected on how life’s challenges can sometimes feel like real-life “contrabidas.” “Sometimes you treat that, kontrabida ‘yun eh sa buhay natin… Pero eventually, ipapa-realize sa ’yo, it teaches you a lesson,” she added, noting that these experiences help build strength and resilience.

One of the lighthearted moments from the conversation was when Gladys fondly talked about her friendship with Judy Ann Santos, recalling their intense yet fun on-screen slapping scenes. With a laugh, she shared, “Si Judy Ann Santos mabigat ang kamay nu’n. Mas masakit siyang manampal, mabigat ang kamay nu’n!”
Gladys said she hopes to work with Juday again in another powerful scene, reliving their iconic sampalan moments that became part of Philippine TV history. Fans can look forward to seeing Gladys soon in the musical family drama The Heart of Music, premiering this December.
