PNP Official Arrested After Allowing Murder Suspect to Leave Jail Cell
A police official was dismissed from his post and detained after he was found to have allowed a murder suspect to leave a detention cell in Caloocan City.
According to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director, Police Major General Anthony Aberin, Police Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Gomez, 54, the chief of the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) of the Northern Police District (NPD), was relieved from duty. He is also facing administrative and criminal charges for his involvement in the incident.
Based on the initial report from the NPD, the incident came to light on Saturday when jail personnel conducted a headcount of persons under police custody (PUPCs). They discovered that one detainee was missing, identified as 43-year-old construction worker Burdigoy Escudero, who had been arrested for murder last August 3, 2025.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that Gomez had allowed Escudero to leave the detention cell, claiming it was for a supposed case follow-up. However, his decision raised suspicions and was considered a serious breach of police protocol.
Following the discovery, authorities immediately placed Gomez under arrest and launched an investigation to determine whether others were involved or if the suspect’s release was part of a larger scheme.
The NCRPO emphasized that actions like this damage the integrity of the police force and weaken public trust. The reminds the public that no one is above the law, not even those who are sworn to enforce it.
