Mayor Vico Sotto is hopeful to have better governance at the barangay level
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto called out some “dishonest” barangay officials during his State of the City Address.
Mayor Vico is known for his good governance in Pasig. He is now serving his third and last term as the Mayor. Despite the anticipation for him to run for a higher position, the Mayor has been strong in his statement that he would not run in the next elections.
He even shared that he planned to teach or work in the private sector. In previous interviews, he stressed that he is focused on doing his job and not on future political stints.
In his recent SOCA, Mayor Vico Sotto, the Mayor mentioned the “dishonesty” that is still happening in some barangays in Pasig.
“No offense meant to our honest barangays — marami rin sila. But offense meant to our dishonest ones. Mula 2019, pinaglaban natin ang mas maayos na pamamahala; nag-focus tayo sa Pamahalaang Lungsod (CITY GOVT),” he said.
Then, Mayor Vico promised that this year, they would fight against corruption at the barangay level. He said that he will do this even though some officials would say that they had a “protector,” a COA commissioner. “Hindi tayo magpapasindak,” he said.
Mayor Vico said that admin cases have been initiated against some barangays. There are also criminal cases being prepared. He said that until the end, they will fight.
His administration aims to improve the situation at the barangay levels. Mayor Vico said that issues reached his office that some barangay officials were not doing the right way of administering their areas.
For him, it is good to fix first what their territory is. “Hinihikayat ko po ang ating mga barangay officials, mag-ayus-ayos naman po tayo,” the Mayor said.
On the other hand, he said that he is not talking about everyone because he saw some barangays that are already gearing towards good governance and providing good services for the people.
However, he said that there were still some barangay officials who were not doing the right things, and he knows about this. “Gagawin natin kung ano ang tama sa lungsod ng Pasig,” Mayor Vico Sotto said.
