DPWH Builds ‘Smart’ Houses for Earthquake Victims in Davao Oriental and Cebu

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has opened evacuation centers and built “smart” houses for the earthquake victims in Davao Oriental and Cebu.

In Davao Oriental, the DPWH opened a Regional Evacuation Center in the town of Manay to shelter residents displaced by the magnitude 7.4 and magnitude 6.8 earthquakes. The agency also sent a 20,000-liter water tank to provide clean water for evacuees staying in the area.

Nag-deploy din ang DPWH ng isang tanker na may kapasidad na 20,000 litro upang masiguro ang tuloy-tuloy na water supply para sa mga evacuees,” the DPWH said.

Meanwhile, in Cebu, the DPWH, in partnership with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), set up several “smart” or prefabricated houses at the San Remigio Tent City.

The temporary homes were designed to give families a safer and more comfortable place to stay while waiting for their houses to be repaired or rebuilt.

The DPWH also installed new electric posts to restore and ensure a stable power supply in the affected communities after the magnitude 6.9 earthquake hit the province.

Various government agencies and local organizations continue to extend help to those affected, providing relief goods, medical assistance, and other forms of support. Through these efforts, the DPWH hopes to ease the struggles of families who lost their homes and ensure that communities can recover faster.
