Security Guard’s Firearm Accidentally Fires at UP Diliman
An incident involving the accidental firing of a gun was reported near the Sunken Garden of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman.
The Facebook page Philippine Collegian shared that the incident happened on Friday morning, October 10, 2025, when a security guard’s firearm accidentally discharged inside the UP Diliman campus. The UP Diliman Office has confirmed the incident.
According to the UP Diliman Office, the guard was stationed near the College of Law when the gun was suddenly discharged. The university’s Public Safety and Security Office explained that the incident happened due to a faulty or worn-out safety pin on the firearm. Fortunately, no one was injured during the accidental firing.

The sound of the gunshot startled students and passersby in the area, prompting immediate response from the UP Diliman Police. Officers quickly arrived to assess the situation and ensure that the campus remained safe.
The firearm was then secured, and an internal investigation was launched to determine the exact cause of the malfunction.
Authorities clarified that it was purely an accident and that the security guard did not intend to fire the weapon. They also assured the public that safety protocols will be reviewed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
