No was the answer of Jericho Rosales when it comes to politics
A-list actor Jericho Rosales and his Quezon co-star Mon Confiado expressed no interest in politics.
Jericho has been in the entertainment industry since the 90s. From being the winner of Mr. Pogi, the male pageant segment on the longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga, he became one of the most in-demand actors of his generation.
It is a known fact that many showbiz personalities eventually ventured into politics. However, Jericho expressed that he could not see himself being a politician. Mon Confiado also had the same answer.
In a recent interview for the movie Quezon, based on the article in The Philippine Star, Mon said that he never had an interest in politics. It never crossed his mind that he would be in the political arena.
The character actor stressed that he would not want to be a public servant because he would not be able to handle the responsibility, as he lacks knowledge about governance.
Jericho Rosales explained his answer by citing his recent trip to Tanzania and South Africa with his girlfriend, Janine Gutierrez. They had a walking tour in Cape Town. Their tour guide talked about the former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, who received the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize.
The A-list actor shared that their tour guide said, “We just need leaders who really care, genuinely and sincerely care.” Jericho pointed out that knowledge and skills can be acquired, and that there were different institutions that would provide the knowledge needed.
However, Jericho said the most important thing is the heart or the intention to really serve. “‘Pag wala sa puso mo at hindi talaga genuine sa’yo ang pag-care at pagsilbi sa isang tao, hindi mangyayari ‘yun, ano pa ang isang bansa?” he said.
Jericho Rosales also said that he could not do both his vocation, which is his acting career, and lead the country. “Hindi biro maging presidente, so ang hinihiling namin ay ang puso mismo ng isang presidente,” he said.
