BPO Company in Cebu Ordered to Stop Operations Over Safety Violations

DOLE Orders BPO Company in Cebu to Stop Operations Over Safety Issues

A BPO company in Cebu has been ordered by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to stop its operations.

On Sunday, October 5, 2025, the Labor Department has ordered a BPO company in Cebu to stop its operation due to the lack of a proper disaster response plan.

According to DOLE, the company failed to include emergency and disaster preparedness measures in its occupational safety and health program, which is a mandatory requirement for all workplaces.

It raised serious concerns about the safety of employees, especially during natural disasters such as earthquakes or typhoons.

The labor department advised the company to implement flexible work arrangements while addressing the issue. This allows employees to continue working safely while the company complies with the necessary safety standards.

The order came just days after the BPO Industry Employees Network filed complaints on October 2 against 30 BPO companies. The group claimed that several firms in Cebu had violated labor and occupational safety laws during the strong earthquake that struck the province on September 30, 2025.

Many employees reportedly had to continue working despite the tremors, with some offices allegedly lacking clear evacuation plans.

DOLE emphasized that the safety and well-being of employees should always come first. It reminded all companies to review and update their emergency procedures, ensuring that workers know what to do in case of earthquakes, fires, or other disasters.

As of this writing, the Cebu-based BPO firm is expected to submit a revised safety plan and comply with DOLE’s requirements before being allowed to resume operations. The agency assured that it will continue inspecting workplaces to make sure employees are protected and that all labor laws are properly followed.
