Sen. Bong Go Supports Senate Reso Calling for Duterte’s House Arrest
BONG GO – The Senator called for the house arrest of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte from his detention under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is under the custody of the ICC for over six (6) months now. The ICC prosecution filed three (3) counts of murder charges against the former Chief Executive as “crimes against humanity”.
The confirmation of charges hearing of former Pres. Duterte was postponed after his lawyer, Nicholas Kaufman, claimed that his client is “not fit to stand trial”. He claimed that the former President is allegedly suffering from a ‘cognitive impairment’.
Duterte’s camp has a pending interim release application before the International Criminal Court. It was in June when his camp first filed their request but asked the ICC after a short while to hold off in making a decision as they await some information and documents that will support their plea. They renewed their request in August.
According to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, a “third country” has committed to host the interim release of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. She also claimed that she allegedly cannot trust anyone in the Philippines so she sought the help of her contacts abroad.
Despite a country being willing to host her father’s interim release, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte admitted that she wants a house arrest for her dad in Davao if ICC will grant his interim release. Amid the ongoing detention of the former President, a resolution was passed in the Senate urging the chamber to call for his interim release.
Sen. Bong Go, a known ally of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, is one of the senators who support the call for house arrest for the former Chief Executive. He has worked as a special assistant of the former President for several years even before Duterte assumed the presidency in 2016.
Sen. Bong Go is part of the Senate minority bloc. He is also one of the members of the so-called Duterte bloc in the Senate. Based on a post of News5 on social media, regarding his support on a call for house arrest for former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, he stressed that he treats the former President more than a father.
“Sobra pa sa tatay ang turing ko sa kanya. Mas nakakasama ko pa po siya for the past 25 years kaysa sa totoo kong tatay,” Go said.
Based on the post, Sen. Bong Go said that what is allegedly frightening now is that former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte cannot talk to anyone now. According to him, he knows the former President and Duterte himself is supposedly tired already.
“Ang nakakatakot lang po ngayon, walang po siyang matawagan, wala siyang masasabihan. Kilala ko po si tatay Digong. Siya na mismo parang, pagod na rin po siya,” the Senator said.
Previously, during the hearing of the proposed budget of the Office of the Vice President in the Senate, Sen. Bong Go offered to give some of the budget of his office to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s office.
