ABS-CBN actress Julia Barretto has these sentiments about the billions lost because of corruption in the country.
The country is currently under close watch as the probe regarding the government flood control projects is still ongoing. The amount of the taxpayers’ money involved is billions, and several names of politicians and officials have already dropped.
Many people are angry, and during the September 21 rally, thousands—including celebrities—joined to express their opposition to the massive and widespread corruption. Among those who attended was Julia Barretto, who was spotted with her mother, Marjorie Barretto, and Leon Barretto, her brother.
Recently, in a series of posts, the actress re-posted something that seemed to reflect her sentiments regarding the huge stealing in the government.
She shared: “P1 BILLION is not just a number. Here’s what it could mean if it worked for us.”
The post enumerated how far PHP 1 billion can go, which included:
- feeding one million families thrice a day for a month
- education for 25,000 students from kindergarten to college
- 20,000 proper houses for the homeless people
However, the money that was meant for these things and more meaningful ones to improve the public’s lives disappeared and went straight to corrupt officials and politicians’ money through the flood control projects.
In another post that she shared, it stated, “Social services suffered deep cuts, with funds pulled from DSWD, PhilHealth, and the 4Ps program. In their place, P130 billion was channeled to discretionary dole-outs like AICS, AKAP, and TUPAD. ASoG warns this shift turns social services into political favors, leaving citizens dependent on patronage instead of rights. From Rights to ‘Utang na Loob'”
Ending her post, she shared that public office is a public trust, but that trust has been broken.
