In their flood control probes, the Senate and the House of Representatives invited the contractors flagged by Pres. Bongbong Marcos as well as the officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) who are accused of flood control corruption. During a Senate hearing, the Discayas claimed that several government and DPWH officials allegedly receive kickback from the flood control projects.

Sarah and Curlee Discaya

Contractor couple Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya and Cezarah “Sarah” Discaya claimed that they allegedly had no choice but to ride on the supposed “system”. Here are some of the government officials accused of allegedly receiving kickback from flood control projects:

  • Former House Speaker and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez
  • Quezon City Cong. Arturo “Arjo” Atayde
  • Marikina Cong. Marcy Teodoro
  • Pasig Cong. Roman Romulo
  • Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Zaldy Co

Presidential cousin and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez resigned from being the House Speaker amid the accusation of flood control corruption against him. Public protests against corruption are set to be held on September 21. However, former Gov. Chavit Singson has a different suggestion.

Based on a post of Cinema Bravo, former Gov. Chavit Singson urged all the high school and college students to boycott their classes until all corrupt officials of the government have resigned from their positions. According to him, the corrupt officials should step down to stop the suffering of the students.

“Huwag silang pumasok hangga’t hindi bumababa ang mga opisyal natin na korap. Kung maaawa sila sa mga estudyante, mga kabataan dahil ipinaglalaban nila ang karapatan nila, kasalanan nila. Para di mahirapan ang mga kabataan, ang mga estudyante, umalis na sila diyan, the soonest possible time,” he said.

During the press conference, Chavit Singson was asked if it has happened before that a corrupt politician resign from the position. According to him, it has not happened in the Philippines but in abroad it has.

Amid the upcoming public protests, Marcos Jr. claimed that he might join the protest actions against corruption if he is not the president of the country.
