President Bongbong Marcos is fully supportive of people’s right to freedom of expression and backs any movement to fight corruption.

The country is discussing the big-time corruption involving flood control projects. Many are mad, many are dismayed, and many are saddened. The situation continues to deteriorate as the investigation progresses. The controversy revolves around the billions allocated for flood control in the country, yet despite the massive budget, flooding has only worsened each year.

The most saddening part about it is that the people are the ones most affected.

As the country suffers the consequences of fund misuse, discussions are still ongoing on how to hold the individuals responsible accountable. Protests have been set out where people have expressed their rage, and President Bongbong Marcos is in full support of this.

On Saturday, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said that “the President will always respect this freedom of expression,” and respects whatever feelings and sentiments people are holding at this time in the country.

Castro added that they could only hope and pray that those seeking to destabilize the government would not exploit this sentiment. The president supports the people in airing their grievances against corruption and has already directed the formation of an independent panel to investigate the implementation of flood control and other infrastructure projects across the country, recommending charges against those found responsible for illegal acts.

Through Executive Order 94, the Independent Commission for Infrastructure will look into the infrastructure projects in the last ten years. The commission members are former Public Works secretary Rogelio “Babes” Singson and Rossana Fajardo, while Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong is serving as special adviser and investigator for the ICI.
