Senior Citizen Passes Away After Accidental Electrocution in Aklan

A 62-year-old senior citizen lost his life after being electrocuted inside his home in Sitio Ilaya, Dumga, Makato, Aklan.

Electrocution means death caused by electric shock. It comes from the words electricity and execution. While people sometimes use it casually to mean any electric shock, the proper meaning is when someone is killed because electricity passes through their body.

If a person just gets shocked but survives, that’s called an electric shock, not electrocution.

Recently, an elderly electrician passed away after being electrocuted. According to relatives, the victim, a local electrician, was last seen inside his room when one of his brothers noticed that he was unusually still, standing near the door.

At first, they thought he had simply fallen asleep or was drunk, but when they checked closer, they discovered that he was already lifeless.

Initial investigation suggests that the victim accidentally touched a live open wire connected to the light switch by the door. This likely caused the strong electric shock that killed him on the spot.

Responders from the Makato Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) rushed to the scene but confirmed that the victim had already passed away.

Authorities reported that the man had burns on his palm, a clear sign of contact with a live wire. The ground near where he was standing was also wet, which may have intensified the electric current and made the shock fatal.

Police said that based on their assessment and the family’s statements, there was no foul play involved. The incident has been classified as an accidental electrocution.

Neighbors and family members were left in shock, describing the victim as someone skilled in electrical work, which made the accident even more unexpected. Safety measures like turning off the main power switch before repairs can help prevent similar accidents
