Vilma Santos Reacts On Anomalies In Flood Control Projects

Batangas Governor Vilma Santos reacts to corruption.

Star for All Seasons and Batangas Governor Vilma Santos has this to say about the big-time corruption involving DPWH projects.

The flood control corruption came to light initially during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA). His speech centered on the billions of losses in government funds, which allegedly went to favored contractors, lawmakers, and other officials involved in the construction in the last 3 years.

There were substandard and “ghost” flood control projects, and the major flooding in several parts across the country after a night’s rain has been evident to prove the reports.

With the widespread talks and condemnation of the corruption, one of those who was unhappy hearing reports about it is Batangas Governor Vilma Santos. She is both dismayed and disappointed over the stealing, saying that it is the people who will bear most of the cost.

She expressed that she is not self-righteous or right all the time, but she is definitely not the devil. As a politician herself who has been in the field for many years now, she follows three principles to uplift good governance. She shared, “Follow the law, be accountable to your people, and be transparent. Sundan mo lang tatlong ito, and you are on the right track. Make sure you are always accountable sa iyong constituents.”

Santos urged officials to adhere to these as well.

According to her, her experiences and portrayals in films have opened her eyes to the realities of life. What she did in the films also happens in real life, and this has given her a compass in being a public servant.

“I was given a chance, mga ginampanan ko naging salamin ng nangyayari sa lipunan,” she said, and added, “Ito malaki natulong real life sakin sa pagiging public servant.”
