Motorcycle Pawned by Drinking Buddy, Suspect Faces Carnapping Case
A construction worker in Lucena City is now facing a carnapping case after running off with his drinking buddy’s motorcycle and pawning it in another province.
The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Purok Matahimik Looban, Barangay Cotta, according to the Lucena City Police. The victim, identified as alias “Edgar,” 29, a credit counselor, was having drinks with the suspect, alias “Lee,” 33, a construction worker.
During their drinking session, Edgar lent his motorcycle to Lee so he could buy more food for their gathering. Hours passed, but Lee never came back. After waiting 24 hours with no sign of Lee, Edgar went to the police to report the incident. With the help of an informant, authorities tracked the suspect down and arrested him.

Investigators later discovered that Lee had taken the motorcycle all the way to Barangay Hugom in San Juan, Batangas, where he pawned it. The authorities are now working to recover the motorcycle and return it to its rightful owner.
Lee is currently detained and faces charges under Republic Act 10883, also known as the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016. This law imposes serious penalties on individuals who take vehicles without permission, regardless of whether they use them, sell them, or pawn them.
For Edgar, the incident was both upsetting and disappointing, as the suspect was someone he trusted enough to lend his motorcycle to. Police reminded the public to be careful when entrusting valuable property, even to acquaintances, as betrayal can sometimes come from the people closest to us.
