Authorities Arrested Lady Online Seller for Selling Overpriced Beep Cards in Pasig

Authorities arrested a 32-year-old lady online seller in Ortigas Center, Pasig City for illegally selling Beep cards at much higher prices.

The suspect, identified as Cateleen Ann Dumondong, was caught in an entrapment operation after advertising the cards on Facebook Marketplace.

According to the Cyber Patrolling and Intelligence Unit, Dumondong offered the cards for P190 to P200 each, far above the official price of P30.

Investigators confirmed with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) that she was not an authorized distributor, prompting police to set up a buy-bust. A police officer posed as a buyer and recovered 50 Beep cards during the operation.

Dumondong now faces charges for violating the Access Device Regulation Act, Consumer Act, and Cybercrime Prevention Act.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon presented the case in a press briefing on August 26, 2025, emphasizing that those engaged in unauthorized selling of transport cards will be held accountable.

Dizon also reminded the public that purchasing large quantities of Beep cards may raise suspicion of hoarding, which affects commuters who rely on them daily for MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 travel.

DOTr announced stronger coordination with online selling platforms such as Lazada, Shopee, TikTok, Carousell, and Facebook Marketplace to prevent similar incidents. The goal is to remove unauthorized posts and stop abusive sellers from taking advantage of commuters.

Dizon assured passengers that there is no longer a shortage of Beep cards, as 300,000 new units were recently delivered to train stations. With a stable supply in place, commuters are advised to purchase cards only from official outlets to avoid being scammed or overcharged.

The arrest warns online sellers and reminds public to remain cautious when buying essential transport cards.
