EARTHQUAKE PH – The magnitude 4.8 shaking near Calaca, Batangas, was felt in several parts of Metro Manila. Here are some details.

Following the 4.4 magnitude quake in Bataan today, a shaking with a magnitude of 4.8 was recorded in Calaca, Batangas, on Wednesday, August 20, at 12:43:09 AM. According to the bulletin from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), it is tectonic in origin and its location was 13.95°N, 120.82°E – 002 km N 19° E of Calaca (Batangas).

  • Intensity III- Quezon City
  • Intensity II – City of Makati
  • Instrumental Intensities:
    • Intensity IV – Sta. Teresita, Lemery, Cuenca, BATANGAS; Carmona, CAVITE; MUNTINLUPA CITY; Guinayangan, QUEZON
    • Intensity III – Bauan, Batangas City, Nasugbu, BATANGAS
    • Intensity II – Abucay, BATAAN; Mataas Na Kahoy, BATANGAS; Trece Martires, Naic, Ternate, Bacoor City, CAVITE; San Pedro City, LAGUNA

PHIVOLCS clarified that while no aftershocks are anticipated following the quake, structural damage in affected areas remains highly possible.
