Netizen Seeks Help After Someone Claimed His Late Dad’s P1,000 Birthday Cash Gift

A male netizen is asking for help from the Lapu-Lapu City LGU after discovering that someone else claimed the P1,000 birthday cash gift intended for his late father.

Recently, Jan Ray Tumulak, a Facebook user, is calling for an investigation after discovering that the P1,000 birthday cash gift intended for his late father was already claimed without the family’s knowledge or consent.

Tumulak shared the incident publicly to raise awareness and ask for transparency from the city government. According to him, his father celebrated his birthday on June 13, 2025. Sadly, just a few weeks later, his father passed away on July 2.

Before his passing, his father reminded them to claim the cash gift granted to senior citizens on their birthdays.

On July 16, 2025, Jan Ray visited the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs to inquire about claiming the gift, but he was advised to check with the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO). Just two days later, on July 18, he was surprised to learn that someone had already claimed the money.

Feeling concerned and disappointed, he immediately submitted a formal letter to the Mayor’s Office, requesting an investigation into the unauthorized claim.

While he received confirmation that his letter was acknowledged, no updates have been provided since then, over two weeks later.

Tumulak stressed that this issue is not about the amount, but about integrity and accountability in public service. He believes that if such cases are ignored, public trust in city programs and employees will slowly fade.

Many internet users believe that protecting the rights and dignity of the elderly should be a top priority, and that fraudulent acts like this must be addressed immediately to avoid further abuse.
