Teachers and Students Face Daily Danger Crossing River on Cables Just to Attend School

Several teachers and students in Nueva Vizcaya cross a dangerous river using cables just to reach school and attend classes.

Recently, Crïzõn Tasin Attiw, a Facebook user, shared videos of some teachers and students facing danger every single day just to attend their classes at Pinayag National High School in Barangay Latbang, Kayapa town. The post garnered various reactions from the online community.

With no proper bridge in place, they are forced to cross a wide river using only a few remaining steel cables. These were once part of a hanging bridge that was destroyed by Typhoon Pepito years ago.

Since then, the cables have become their only way across. One wrong step or slip could easily lead to a disaster.

In the videos, the students were holding tightly to the cables as they slowly crossed the river, their school bags on their backs, filled not just with supplies for the week but with determination and hope.

Teachers join them too, carrying the same courage and commitment to continue their duties despite the danger.

The trek is long and exhausting. The area is surrounded by thick forests and mountains, often covered in fog, making the path even more difficult. It took them hours or nearly half a day of walking to reach school. Still, these young learners push forward, driven by the desire to learn.

For these students, education is not just something found in books or classrooms. It is something they fight for each day.
