After being tied in the missing sabungeros case, Gretchen Barretto has no plans to file a case against the accuser for now.
In a previous article, a female celebrity was among the ‘alpha’ members in the missing sabungeros case. Actress Gretchen Barretto was tied to the case and was even urged to testify against the alleged mastermind.
In a previous article, Barretto’s camp denied her involvement in the case, while the actress also expressed that she understands the significance of resolving the case. She claimed she was a victim of an attempt at money extortion in exchange for her name’s exclusion from the list of suspects if she paid.
Recently, her camp released another statement during an interview, and according to them, filing a complaint against the whistleblower “is not very helpful” at this point. Her legal counsel, Atty. Alma Mallonga said that people have already made up their minds and filing a case would be a waste for now.
Their focus is “repairing” the damage done to Barretto’s reputation caused by the accusations and allegations.
“She’s downhearted by all of this, and her filing a case now is not very helpful within the context of people having already made up their minds. And filing a complaint is an arduous process in and by itself,” Mallonga said in an interview with ANC’s Headstart.
Mallonga added that the whistleblower has no evidence other than his statements, which, as per her words, are “fantasy, invention, and nonsense.”
“He has not signed an affidavit. A heavier case later on, and we’re keeping it on the table, is perjury. It’s a good thing. Perjury has a high penalty. In fact, if you’re convicted of perjury, it’s not even subject to probation,” she added.
Businessman Atong Ang, the alleged mastermind in the missing sabungeros case, has spoken about being tied to the case and filed charges against the accuser, who was one of the accused in the disappearances as well, and his former employee.
