Man Shot in Rizal After Alleged ‘Bad Stare’ Incident

A 21-year-old man was injured after being shot by another man who was reportedly angered by a bad stare in Rodriguez, Rizal.

According to reports, the incident happened in a public market in Barangay San Isidro on a seemingly normal evening. People were going about their usual routines when a man suddenly pulled a gun from his bag.

The CCTV only captured the moment before the shooting, but police confirmed that the suspect shot the victim after they exchanged stares that led to a heated confrontation. The two had reportedly already had a tense encounter earlier, during which the suspect threatened to shoot the victim.

“Nagkatinginan sila nang hindi maganda at ‘yung suspek ay pinagbantaan itong biktima na babarilin daw ‘di umano. So, siya naman umuwi, kumuha siya ng baril niya, ‘yung suspek,” Rodriguez, Rizal Police Police Lieutenant Colonel Paul Sabulao

After going home to get his gun, the suspect returned to the market. When he saw the victim again, he approached and fired at him. The victim was hit on the side and stumbled while trying to run away.

A nearby 18-year-old female vendor was also slightly injured when the bullet grazed her arm.

Patrolling police officers responded quickly, arriving at the scene in less than a minute. They arrested the 18-year-old suspect, who had already taken off his jacket. The firearm used in the shooting was also recovered from him.

The suspect told authorities that he thought the victim was part of a gang and that he felt threatened after being stared at. He claimed this was why he returned and carried out the shooting.
