Netizen Questions P80K Cash Aid Given to Viral Woman in Sewer

Netizen Expresses Dismay w/ DSWD for Giving P80K Cash Aid to Viral Woman in Sewer

A male netizen has questioned DSWD for giving P80,000 cash assistance to the viral woman who was spotted coming out from a sewer.

Recently, Delfin Cumba Simponito Jr., a Facebook user, has expressed his disagreement with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for giving P80,000 in aid to the woman who went viral for emerging from a sewer.

The incident caught the public’s attention after a video showed the woman crawling out of an open drainage area. The government’s response bygranting her P80,000 in assistance and naming her an honorary social worker raised eyebrows.

Simponito shared his opinion, saying he was disappointed that such recognition and financial help were based on a viral moment rather than a structured and fair social welfare system.

Delfin pointed out how ordinary workers like him pay taxes daily through groceries, gas, water, and electricity, yet rarely receive any form of aid. He stressed that while he supports helping people in need, it shouldn’t be selective or driven by viral fame.

The male netizen also emphasized that countless Filipinos are homeless, scavenging for food, or begging on the streets, yet do not receive this kind of support.

He urged the government to provide long-term solutions such as sending people back to school through ALS, offering vocational training via TESDA, or job placement assistance through agencies like DTI and DMW.

He ended his post by calling for reform in programs like TUPAD and AICS, which he believes are being misused and could be establishing dependency rather than empowerment.

Also, LF imburnal in the Metro for the 80k.”
