DepEd Sec. Sonny Angara Responds To Order of Pres. Bongbong Marcos
SONNY ANGARA – The Department of Education Secretary tendered his resignation following the order of President Bongbong Marcos.
Earlier today, Pres. Bongbong Marcos ordered all his Cabinet secretaries to tender their courtesy resignation. According to the Chief Executive, he wants a recalibration of the administration following the results of the 2025 Elections.

Prior to his recent statement asking his Cabinet secretaries to leave their positions, Pres. Bongbong Marcos claimed that the Filipinos are disappointed by the government service based on the outcome of the 2025 Elections. He also believes that the people are tired of politicking.
Following the order of Marcos Jr., several Cabinet secretaries of the President have tendered their courtesy resignation. Based on a report on Inquirer, DepEd Sec. Sonny Angara has resigned.

Education Sec. Sonny Angara assumed the highest position in the helm of the Department of Education since 2024. The department was surrounded by controversies regarding its Confidential Funds under the lead of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.

Duterte is now faced with a looming impeachment trial on the budget use of DepEd during her stint as well as the OVP. Five (5) high-ranking officials of DepEd resigned before Angara assumed the post as the education secretary.
Based on the report, in his resignation letter, Sonny Angara stressed that his decision is in line with the courtesy resignation order of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. He also expressed his trust on the decision of the President in leading the country.
“This decision aligns with the president’s directive for Cabinet-wide courtesy resignations. We support this process. We value and trust the president’s decision to strengthen his leadership and governance,” he said.
Angara thanked Marcos Jr. for the opportunity to lead the education department. According to him, his stint as the chief of DepEd was “the greatest honor of his public life”.
