Bedridden Senior Citizen Chooses to Vote Personally

Bedridden Senior Citizen in Mandaue City Earns Praise for Choosing to Vote Personally

A bedridden senior citizen in Mandaue City went viral and earns online admiration after choosing to vote personally.

On Monday (May 12, 2025), Dante Legazpi, a senior citizen from Barangay Cambaro in Mandaue City, may no longer be able to walk, but that didn’t stop him from casting his vote. Despite being bedridden, he made the firm decision to go out and vote during the recent elections.

At first, he planned to vote at the Priority Polling Place, which is a special area set up for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs). This setup allows them to vote in a more convenient environment.

However, the ballots collected in these special areas are not fed into the machine by the voters themselves. Instead, election staff handle that part for them at the regular precinct.

Legazpi felt strongly about personally feeding his ballot into the Automated Counting Machine (ACM). For him, it was important to complete the voting process himself, even if it meant more effort.

So he asked to be brought to his designated precinct, where he could do it the usual way. With the help of local volunteers, Legazpi was transported from his home to the voting center. After voting, he was safely brought back. He was not alone in this effort.

Other bedridden residents from Barangay Cambaro also received assistance to make sure they could exercise their right to vote.

Legazpi’s determination shows how important voting is to him and many others like him. Even in difficult situations, they are willing to go the extra mile just to make sure their voice is heard. His gesture shows that every vote counts, and some people will do whatever it takes to make sure theirs is included.
