Authorities Confiscate Expired Grocery Items Found Being Relabeled in Tarlac

EXPIRED GOODS – Several boxes of expired grocery items were found relabeled at a warehouse in Capas, Tarlac.

On Monday (April 28, 2025), authorities seized boxes of expired grocery items from a warehouse in Capas, Tarlac, during a raid led by the NBI-Tarlac District Office. The products were allegedly being relabeled with new expiration dates before being sold to small stores.

The operation started after an informant reported the illegal activities happening in the warehouse. Based on the report, expired items such as milk, noodles, mayonnaise, and chocolates were being relabeled and sold cheaply to different markets for public consumption.

Expired Grocery Items

Armed with a search warrant, the NBI operatives discovered hundreds of boxes containing expired products, some of which had expiration dates as far back as 2023. Investigators said that workers inside the warehouse erased the old expiration dates and replaced them with new ones to make the goods appear safe.

The seized items were estimated to be worth around P5 million. Authorities warned that consuming expired goods could cause food poisoning, diarrhea, and other health problems.

The store owners and buyers are reminded to always check expiration dates before purchasing any product, especially since cheaper prices might tempt some to overlook the risks.

During the raid, the warehouse owner was not present. However, he will face charges for violating The Consumer Act and the Food and Drug Administration Act.

Expired Grocery Items

The authorities reminded everyone to stay alert when buying grocery products. Always inspect the labels properly, because consuming expired items can lead to dangerous health issues that are easily avoidable.

NBI continue to investigate the full extent of the operation and are working to ensure that the unsafe products do not reach more consumers.
