Statement of Malacañang on VO Sara Duterte Lawyers’ Confidence To Emerge Victorious in Impeachment Trial
Malacañang reacted to the confidence of the lawyers of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte that they will win the impeachment trial.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is now back in the Philippines. She was at The Hague, Netherlands for more than three (3) weeks to support her father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, who is currently under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The Vice President finalized the ICC legal team of her father before she returned to the country. Former Pres. Duterte’s confirmation of charges is still months away from now as it is scheduled on September 23.
Upon her return to the Philippines, one of the very first things that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte did was meet with her legal team for her impeachment trial. Last February 5, the House of Representatives impeached the Vice President and it is now up to the Senate when to start the trial. Malacañang previously called on the senators to pen a request for the immediate start of the trial.

Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero previously said that the impeachment trial will push through despite FPRRD’s detention at the ICC detention facility at The Hague. However, the Senate President has refused to adjust the Senate’s calendar of activities to immediately start the trial.

According to Senate Pres. Escudero, even one (1) million signatures that call for Duterte’s impeachment trial won’t convince him to break the law. He stressed that the “law is not bendable”.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte expressed that her lawyers are “more than confident” to win the impeachment trial. According to her, with regards to her, her confidence is on her legal team which she is “most confident” of. The Vice President refused to get into details with regards to their preparations for the impeachment trial.

Recently, Malacañang reacted to the claim of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte over her lawyers’ confidence to win the impeachment trial. Based on a report on GMA News, Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro tagged it as an alleged strategy.
”Kung iyon po iyong estratehiya nila, hayaan po natin,” the Malacañang Press Officer said.
Based on the report, the Malacañang Press Officer once again reiterated that the Palace has nothing to do with the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Previously, the Palace claimed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos is against the impeachment of Duterte.
Previously, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero said that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial is allegedly not an urgent matter. Some lawmakers opposed the claim of the Senate Chief.
