Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on Impeachment Case
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that her lawyers are “more than confident” that they will win the impeachment case.
The House of Representatives has voted to impeach Vice Pres. Duterte. It is now up to the Senate on when to hold the impeachment trial. There have been several calls on Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero to begin Duterte’s impeachment trial but he has refused to do so several times.
According to Escudero, even one (1) million signatures calling for the impeachment trial of Duterte to begin will not convince him to bend the law. He also stressed that the Senate is following a calendar and they don’t need to adjust it for the impeachment.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was supposedly one of the lawyers of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in her impeachment battle but the former President is now under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands. He was arrested last March 11.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was arrested by the Philippine authorities upon his arrival from Hong Kong. On the same day of his arrest, FPRRD was flown to The Hague, Netherlands via Dubai. Vice Pres. Duterte immediately flew to the Netherlands to support the former President.
It was just recently when Vice Pres. Sara Duterte returned to the Philippines from The Hague, Netherlands. She set the legal team of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte for his ICC trial before returning to the country. According to her, her legal team for her impeachment trial was set even before the March 11 turn of events transpired.
Previously, it was reported that the prosecution team in Duterte’s impeachment trial meets weekly to prepare. Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero also clarified that the impeachment trial of the Vice President will push through despite the ICC battle of her father.
Recently, during a visit in Cebu to thank the Duterte supporters, the reporters were able to make a quick interview of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on GMA News, she expressed the confidence of her lawyers that they will emerge victorious in the impeachment trial.
“Ang aking impeachment, sinasabi ng mga lawyers, they are more than confident na mananalo sila sa impeachment. Ako naman, I am most confident with the lawyers working on my impeachment case,” Duterte said.
It was last February when the House of Representatives impeached Duterte. More than 200 lawmakers signed the complaint. Presidential son and Ilocos Norte Representative Sandro Marcos is one of those who signed the impeachment rap against Duterte.
