Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Back in PH After 3-Week Stay in Netherlands for Dad Rodrigo
SARA DUTERTE – The Office of the Vice President (OVP) confirmed their chief’s arrival in the Philippines from The Hague, Netherlands.
The arrest of former Philippine Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte in Manila last March 11 caused political turmoil in the country. Countless Duterte supporters are calling on the government and the Supreme Court to order the return of the former President.
Former Pres. Duterte is faced with an allegation of crimes against humanity before the International Criminal Court. The ICC welcomed the arrest of Duterte and the transfer of his custody to the foreign court.
Duterte was flown to The Hague, Netherlands via Dubai on the day that he was arrested by the members of the Philippine National Police (PNP). Vice Pres. Sara Duterte immediately followed her father in The Hague.
However, upon her arrival in The Hague, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte wants Vice Pres. Sara Duterte to immediately return to the Philippines and not leave the country. The former President was detained in the hospital wing of the ICC detention facility in The Hague for several days but he is now under a regular detention.
According to VP Sara, she will just set the legal team of her father and return to the Philippines. The legal team of FPRRD is led by British-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman. Duterte’s lead lawyer hopes to convince the judge that the ICC has no jurisdiction in PH saying that if it happens, there might be no need for things to get to the confirmation of charges.
The ICC scheduled the confirmation of charges against Duterte on September 23. Previously, former presidential spokesman Harry Roque hoped to visit Duterte as he wants to be part of the former President’s legal team.
Lawyer Nicholas Kaufman vowed to fight for “Mr. Duterte until the end”. Recently, he revealed that the legal team of the former Philippine President has been finalized and Atty. Harry Roque is not part of the team.
Harry Roque is an asylum seeker in the Netherlands saying he cannot be deported in the Philippines while the application process is ongoing. It may take around one and a half year according to the former presidential spokesman. Back in the Philippines, he is faced with an arrest order for contempt issued by the House of Representatives.
Recently, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) confirmed that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has arrived in the Philippines after more than three (3) weeks of stay in the Netherlands. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he “arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Sunday, 06 April 2025, at approximately 9:56 PM via Emirates Airlines flight no. EK 334”.
Previously, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte slammed Pres. Bongbong Marcos on his “duty”. It came after she expressed her “sarcasm” towards the Chief Executive for her renewed relationship with her father.
