Sen. Imee Marcos Admits More Questions about Duterte’s Controversial Arrest
IMEE MARCOS – The Senator revealed that the cabinet officials will skip the Day 2 of the Senate probe on the arrest of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Some senators are vocal about their stands on the controversial arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte last March 11. The former Chief Executive was arrested by the Philippine National Police following the reported issuance of an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court.

Amid the criticisms from Duterte’s supporters, Malacañang defended President Bongbong Marcos from “betrayal” accusations. The Palace also stressed that the government only did its job.
According to Pres. Marcos, the government acted on the arrest in lieu of its commitment with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol). He also denied that it is political persecution saying that the ICC-Duterte issue was already present even before he came into the picture.

However, unexpectedly, presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos was shocked by the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Sen. Marcos skipped the campaign sorties of the BBM-led Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago following Duterte’s arrest.

Sen. Imee Marcos ditched the campaign rallies of the grand alliance in Tacloban and in the huge province of Cavite. However, it caught the attention of many people when Pres. Bongbong Marcos did not mention his sister’s name at the Cavite campaign rally.
Sen. Marcos led a Senate committee inquiry on the arrest of former Pres. Duterte. She also officially left the Alyansa and she believes that her brother might have been angered by the investigation. Her statement came after Malacañang denied a rift between the siblings saying that the President is not short-tempered.
However, based on a report on GMA News, Sen. Imee Marcos recently revealed that the cabinet officials will not be attending the Day 2 of the Senate inquiry on the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. According to the Senator, she received a letter from executive secretary Lucas Bersamin invoking their executive privilege.
“I received a letter last night from the ES saying that the Executive would not be attending the hearing on April 3. Nakakalungkot naman kasi alam ninyo maraming tanong pa rin,” Marcos said.
Based on the report, Sen. Marcos further expressed that she was only able to come up with a preliminary report and there are a lot of questions to her as well as new information. According to her, the next hearing could have been the chance to clarify opposing claims during the previous inquiry.
“Sabi naman ni Presidente na hindi raw ihihinto. Pero ang liwa-liwanag ng sulat,” the Senator said.
When Sen. Imee Marcos left the Alyansa, she cited that her ideals and principles are contrary to the government’s recent action. She plans to campaign with the local candidates.
