This is the honest remark of Gloria Diaz about the beauty pageants nowadays.
Former Miss Universe queen Gloria Diaz has this no-filter comment about the beauty pageants at the current times.
PH’s first Miss Universe winner is Gloria Diaz. She won the crown in 1969, and in 2019, she marked her 50th year as a Miss Universe titleholder. In the industry, she is known as someone who has always been fearless in speaking her mind. Even her daughter tagged her “Without filter since 1969.”
She is aware of this, which is why sometimes, she puts a break in her words. She is also sometimes quoted wrongly. She tries hard, though oftentimes, words just slip out of her mouth naturally.
Speaking about the beauty pageants before and the beauty pageants now, she shared what she doesn’t like. According to her, she doesn’t like it when women undergo too much training.
She also doesn’t like complicated answers. She expressed, “This is not an IQ contest, e, it’s a beauty contest. It’s okay with me all the plastic surgery and all that. I don’t care. But I don’t like these very parang genius answers and people think just because you could speak English, magaling ka na. Hindi.”
What she wants to see from the contestants are their natural actions and answers from the heart. She would even prefer them to answer in their chosen dialect, as it would be genuine that way.
“The natural. So I want to see a more natural person,” she said.
Aside from her, the other PH beauty queens who won the Miss Universe crown are Margie Moran (1973), Pia Wurtzbach (2015), and Catriona Gray (2018).
Meanwhile, at 73, Diaz revealed that she has been in a relationship with a younger man for 28 years. During an interview at the press conference of the horror movie “Untold,” she shared that her partner of 28 years is Michael O. De Jesus, President and CEO of the Development Bank of the Philippines.
Despite the eight-year age gap with her partner, their relationship remains “super good.” However, she is not open to marrying again following her failed marriage with businessman Gabriel Daza III.
