Sen. Bato dela Rosa Speaks on ICC Issue amid Duterte’s Arrest

BATO DELA ROSA – The Senator is confident that he can defend himself before the International Criminal Court in case his lawyer cannot.

Aside from former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte who was recently arrested and brought to The Hague in the Netherlands, another persona known as possibly also a subject of the investigation of the International Criminal Court or ICC is Sen. Dela Rosa.

Sen. Bato dela Rosa was the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the implementation of the war on the drugs. The said campaign of the Duterte administration is surrounded by accusations of violation of human rights.

There are thousands of deaths linked to the Duterte drug war. On the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Sen. Dela Rosa tagged it as “betrayal” allegedly committed by Pres. Bongbong Marcos.

According to the Senator, the President allegedly did not stand by his words and has betrayed the Filipinos and the nation. He expressed that he feels both anger and sadness over the turn of events that led to the detention of former Pres. Duterte in The Hague now.

Previously, Sen. Bato dela Rosa said he will avail the protection that the Senate can extend if the ICC releases an arrest order against him. According to him, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero assured him of the protection that the upper chamber can extend as long as it can.

According to Dela Rosa, he is ready to join former Pres. Duterte in The Hague in case all legal remedies will fail. He stressed that he will turn over himself peacefully and he is willing to take care of the former President at the detention facility.

In case of being arrested by the International Criminal Court, Sen. Bato dela Rosa is “prepared” to defend himself in case his lawyer cannot. Based on a report on Inquirer, he stressed that lawyers must be accredited by the ICC and he does not know who are accredited by the international court.

“I am prepared. The most important thing is that once I arrive there in the ICC, once the trial begins, I can defend myself just in case my lawyer cannot,” the Senator said during his interview with DZBB.

Sen. Dela Rosa admitted that he wants to avail the services of the lawyers who are accredited by the tribunal. However, in case no lawyer is willing to represent him, he is confident that he can defend himself before the ICC.

Amid the arrest issue that has hooked the Filipino populace, Sen. Bato dela Rosa expressed a message for Pres. Bongbong Marcos.
