Criminology Graduate Mistaken for a Thief Loses His Life After Being Mobbed

A criminology graduate lost his life after being mobbed by residents in Malate, Manila, who mistook him for a thief.

A 26-year-old criminology graduate identified as Christian Ambon, who had just arrived in the city from Samar in search of a job lost his life due to a tragic incident.

Christian was allegedly a victim of theft, with his cellphone taken by someone he identified as “Junjun.” Determined to retrieve his belongings, he chased the suspected thief to a house in Barangay 718.

However, someone reportedly yelled “thief,” shifting suspicion onto Christian. Residents quickly surrounded him, leading to a violent mob attack. Ambon suffered a stab wound and was later found lifeless on the street. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Christian’s mother, Bonifacia Ambon, shared her grief and disbelief. She insisted her son was not capable of theft, even if their family struggled financially. According to her, Christian tried to explain what had happened before he passed.

The criminology graduate claimed Junjun was the real culprit, but his attempt to clear his name came too late.

Adding to the family’s pain, Bonifacia alleged that a barangay captain suggested disposing of Christian’s body in a nearby river. The barangay captain denied the accusation and claimed Christian had threatened others with a knife, leading to the misunderstanding.

The Manila Police District is now investigating the incident. Meanwhile, Christian’s family is seeking justice and planning to file charges against those involved. They also hope to bring his remains back to Samar, though financial difficulties make this a challenge.
