Catholic Church’s Pope Francis Remains in Complex Health Condition
Pope Francis who is currently battling pneumonia reportedly believes that he won’t live longer, thus, his wake and funeral are being prepared.
The Roman Catholic is the biggest church across the globe with millions of members in different countries. The head of the worldwide Catholic church is the Pope, the bishop of Rome. He is also known as the sovereign pontiff, the supreme pontiff, or the Roman pontiff.

Currently, the bishop of Rome is Pope Francis. The Roman pontiff’s real name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio and he assumed the Papacy of the Catholic church at Vatican City State last March 13, 2013.
The current Pope is the third sovereign pontiff to have visited the Philippines. It was on January 15 to January 19, 2015 when he came to the country.

However, currently, Roman Catholic church leaders and the Vatican are appealing for prayers for Pope Francis who is currently battling health conditions. Based on an article on Pep, the Roman pontiff is in a battle with pneumonia which affects both of his lungs. Prior to this, the Pope has survived some hospital confinement.
Moreover, his battle against pneumonia is made worse by the asthmatic bronchitis that has also affected the 88-year-old Roman pontiff. Based on the report, the Pope is confined in the hospital for nearly a week now since February 14, 2025.

Pope Francis is confined in a hospital in Gemelli in Rome, Italy. He was brought to the hospital due to extreme chest pains due to a severe infection that affects his breathing. Based on the article, the Roman pontiff believes that he won’t live longer.
“I might not make it this time,” the Pope told two (2) people who are close to him.
Based on the article, amid the complex health condition of the Pope which is made even more challenging and risky because of the removal of a part of his lungs when he was young, wake and funeral preparations for the Supreme pontiff are on the way.
Citing a report in a newspaper in Switzerland, the Swiss Guard which is in-charged of the security of Pope Francis is currently under a curfew as a preparation for the possible demise of the sovereign Pontiff.
Blick also stated that Vatican is already preparing for the funeral rehearsal for Pope Francis in case he passes away. Previously, the Supreme Pontiff has confirmed that his burial site was already prepared in case he dies.
During his visit in the Philippines, the Pope went to several areas including Tacloban, Leyte. The first Pope to have visited the country was Pope Paul VI in 1970 followed by Pope John Paul II who came to the country twice in 1981 and 1995.
