Here’s an update about the health condition of Pope Francis.
Cardinal David asks for prayers for Pope Francis who has been admitted to a hospital in Rome and developed pneumonia.
“Laboratory tests, chest X-rays, and the clinical condition of the Holy Father continue to present a complex picture.”

According to the statement, the Pope’s “polymicrobial infection, which has arisen in the context of bronchiectasis and asthmatic bronchitis, and has required the use of corticosteroid and antibiotics, makes the therapeutic treatment more complex”.
A chest CT scan was done as a follow-up and the onset of bilateral pneumonia was discovered which requires additional pharmacological therapy. It means he has developed pneumonia in both of his lungs. Despite the current health status of the Pope, he remained to be in good spirits.
This is the recent update about Pope Francis as released by the Vatican to journalists on Tuesday evening. To recall, the Pope was hospitalized on Friday to receive treatment for his bronchitis.
Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) President and Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio Cardinal David asked for prayers for the Pope.
“May I ask for your prayers for his healing and recovery during this challenging time,” the Filipino cardinal said about the 88-year-old Catholic church leader who is facing a respiratory infection.
As he faced these challenges in his health, all of his engagements were canceled. He has become vulnerable to lung infections because of a developing pleurisy and a part of one of his lungs was removed when he was 21 years old.
In 2021, the Pope was also hospitalized for his intestinal surgery, the first time for him ever since he became the Catholic leader in 2013.
What is double pneumonia?
This is a lung infection that affects both lungs and inflames the alveoli. This inflammation causes difficulty in breathing and its symptoms vary on various factors such as age, general health, and the type of infection.
