Man Falls to His Death While Cutting Tree Leaves in Manila
A 51-year-old man lost his life after falling from a coconut tree while cutting its dried leaves in Sampaloc, Manila.
A tragic accident took place in Sampaloc, Manila, when a 51-year-old man fell from a coconut tree while cutting its dried leaves.
On Tuesday (February 4, 2025), the residents along Honradez Street initially thought only some leaves had fallen. However, they were shocked to discover that a man had plummeted from the tree.
According to the barangay, the victim was asked to trim the dried leaves of the coconut tree. A van owner had requested it, concerned that falling leaves might damage his parked vehicle. The barangay explained that the van did not belong to a resident of their area but was frequently parked at the spot.
Before the accident, the van owner even moved his vehicle forward to make space. The victim secured his rope and climbed up the tree. Moments later, he lost his balance and fell, hitting his head hard on the ground.
Witnesses said he was still alive after the fall. However, he did not receive immediate medical attention, as it took 40 minutes for an ambulance to arrive. His wife shared that they were supposed to have lunch together that day and that she had no idea he had taken on the dangerous task.
The wife also revealed that four other men declined the job before her husband accepted it, hoping to earn extra money to pay for their home expenses.
Despite the incident, the van owner and the tree’s owner have committed to covering the funeral and burial expenses. The victim’s family holds no grudges, acknowledging that it was an unfortunate accident.
Barangay officials now plan to increase patrols to prevent illegal parking in the area. They emphasized that such accidents could have been avoided if the tree-trimming issue had been reported to the local government instead of relying on an individual to do the risky job.
