Fire Destroys Truck Drivers’ Barracks in Pasig City
A fire broke out in the barracks of truck drivers and helpers in Barangay Maybunga, Pasig City, damaging trucks and personal belongings.
Around 2 AM early Friday (December 20, 2024), the fire quickly spread through the building, which was made from light materials. This barracks was located within a truck parking compound.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) raised the first alarm, and around nine fire trucks, along with volunteer fire groups, rushed to the scene. The fire was contained in about 40 minutes.
Fortunately, six truck drivers and helpers who were asleep at the time managed to escape the blaze without harm. However, none of them were able to save their belongings, as the fire spread so quickly.
One of the truck drivers, Violito Duran, shared that he woke up when his helper shouted about the fire. At first, he thought the situation was under control but quickly realized that the flames had already spread to the ceiling.
Duran and his colleagues ran out of the building as quickly as possible. The fire also damaged three trucks parked nearby, with the front parts burned. One motorcycle was completely destroyed, while another was partially damaged but immediately extinguished with water.
According to the BFP, they suspect that electrical wiring issues could be the cause of the fire. Investigators found that smoke was coming from the ceiling area, but since the workers were asleep, they couldn’t determine the exact cause.
The fire department is still conducting an investigation to assess the full extent of the damages. As for the truck drivers, some of their essential belongings, including their driver’s licenses, wallets, and mobile phones, were lost in the fire.
