Man Faces Backlash for Stealing Parked E-bike Owner by Clothing Shop Employee in Manila
A man was caught on CCTV stealing a parked e-bike belonging to one of the shop’s employees in front of a clothing shop in Tondo, Manila.
In the video, the guy was first seen walking around Bambang Street, looking like he was checking something out. After a while, he pulled his shirt over his head to cover his face and started tampering with the e-bike parked outside the store.
A few minutes later, he got on the e-bike, fixed his shirt, and casually rode off as if nothing happened.
Joshua Mendoza, the e-bike owner, was heartbroken over the theft. The e-bike was mainly used for picking up and dropping off kids, and they had just finished paying for it after a year of installments. To make things worse, they had just spent money to put in a brand-new battery.
“Ginagamit din ‘yun hatid sundo sa mga bata tapos nanakaw lang. Yung e-bike na nga lang ‘yung napundar, nanakaw pa,” Mendoza said.
Allan Teston, the shop owner, said this was already the third theft to happen in a week. What’s even more frustrating is that the suspect seemed like a regular customer.
He pointed out that the man was wearing one of their items and probably planned the whole thing, scouting the area and watching where the e-bike was parked.
“Nakasuot siya ng paninda namin. Parang minanmanan niya muna ‘yung e-bike. Dinouble check niya muna kung siguro anong oras nawawala ‘yung tao, saan pinaparada ‘yung e-bike kasi alam niya agad ‘yung pupuntahan niya eh,” Teston said.
Teston mentioned that thefts like this become common as Christmas approaches. He urged fellow business owners to invest in CCTV cameras and stay alert because this kind of thing happens a lot, especially in December.
