Gary Valenciano and his son Gab was asked about SB19
Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano said that there was a certain pressure working with the Kings of P-pop SB19.
The quintet is tagged as the group that paved the way for P-pop to be recognized internationally. These past years, Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken, and Justin have been doing tremendous hard work to introduce not just P-pop but OPM to the global music scene.
More than the recognition and respect they get from the international audience, SB19 has been gaining the respect and admiration of their fellow Pinoy artists as well, just like Gary V.
SB19 is one of the guest artists in Gary Valenciano’s Pure Energy: One More Time show. In an interview with Inquirer, the veteran performer was asked what it was like working with the prominent P-pop group.
“Pressure,” Mr. Pure Energy said. He said that it is because of SB19’s name and who they are. Then, he shared an instance that he remembered so well when he went to the group’s studio during rehearsals.
“They have touches of who they are,” Gary said about the individuality of each member, especially in how they choose their outfits. He said that he would just go to the studio for rehearsal wearing his usual clothes for that particular purpose but the members of SB19 would show touches of who they were through their getup.
The veteran performer also pointed out what they noticed when SB19 did their rehearsal. He shared that back when they rehearsed for the song Gento when they performed for an event, he saw that even though the boys already rehearsed and performed this many times, they still had the same energy and effort as what they had before.
“Hataw pa rin sila. I like seeing that,” Gary said, adding that this meant that the group is serious about what they want.
“They know they’re world-class but they don’t take it like, ‘Oh, okay na kami,’” Mr. Pure Energy said. He also pointed out that since SB19 is already world-class, they continue grinding knowing that they are also representing other Filipino artists.
Gab Valenciano stressed that other people may not realize that SB19’s success is not overnight and that the members spent a huge amount of time in training and hard work. With this, Gab said that he respects the P-pop Kings.
“I think they have set the standard,” Gary Valenciano said, adding that SB19 is “a tough act to follow.”
