After Kanlaon Volcano erupted, several areas suffered the aftermath.
KANLAON VOLCANO – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. assured people affected by the eruption of aid from the government.
One of the several active volcanoes in the country is Kanlaon which straddles the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental. Previously, Kanlaon erupted producing “a voluminous plume that rapidly rose to 3,000 meters” from its summit vent and lasted seven minutes.
Canlaon City Mayor Jose Chubasco Cardenas urged residents within the four-kilometer permanent danger zone (PDZ) to evacuate particularly in Lumapao, Malaiba, Pula, and Nasulo. The area has been raised to Alert Level 3 or magmatic unrest.
Cardenas advised people to wear face masks or damp cloths to protect themselves from harmful pyroclastic materials spewed by the active volcano.
Suffering the aftermath of this event are at least 26 areas on Negros Island and according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), ashfall was reported in a wide area west of the volcano.

These areas affected are Hinigaran, Valladolid, Pulupandan, Pontevedra, San Enrique, La Carlota, La Castellana, Murcia, and Bago City in Negros Occidental, and Canlaon City in Negros Oriental.
Some areas in Western Visayas also suffer from ashfall due to the west-southwest direction of the wind. These areas are Tigbauan, Igbaras, Miag-ao, Oton, Guimbal, Pavia, and Iloilo City in Iloilo; San Jose de Buenavista, Belison, San Remigion, and Patnongon in Antique; San Lorenzo, San Miguel, Nueva Valencia, and Sibunag in Guimaras.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. assured that help would be on the way for the thousands of people affected by the eruption that caused heavy ashfall and strong sulfuric fumes.
According to the president, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Department of Science and Technology are continuing their efforts to monitor the air quality in the province.
“We’re ready, we know what to do and we already started to send food packs, and all the things that we bring to those who are in evacuation centers,” he said.
