Authorities Rescue 4 Young Children Being Locked Inside Their Home
Four young children in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, were rescued after being locked inside their home by their mother.
The mother explained that she took this step to protect them from potential harm outside while she was out searching for a way to earn money for their needs. However, her decision raised concerns about the children’s welfare.
A concerned neighbor noticed the situation and immediately reported it to local authorities. Responding to the call, members of the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children in Punta Engaño, along with the Women and Children Protection Desk of Lapu-Lapu City, stepped in to assist.
“Hindi naming pwedeng sirain ang padlock dahil lalabas na trespassing without permission mula sa may-ari tapos ang sabi the only way na masira at mabuksan ang pintuan ay sa pamamagitan ng CSWD,” Brgy. Punta Engaño Coun. Mark Estardo said.
The children were taken to the barangay hall, where they received food, rest, and care.
The mother, a 29-year-old woman, shared that her actions were driven by her desperation to provide for her family. She explained that leaving her children at home seemed like the safest option while she sought a livelihood.
Despite her intentions, the authorities deemed it necessary to evaluate the situation further to ensure the children’s safety and well-being.
Currently, the children are under the care of the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD). The agency is closely assessing the mother’s ability to provide proper care and support for her children.
While her actions were rooted in concern for their safety, the incident points out the importance of having access to support systems for struggling parents.
The authorities continue to monitor the situation, prioritizing the children’s welfare and exploring ways to assist the family in overcoming their difficulties.
