Sunshine Garcia released this statement defending her husband
Actress-dancer Sunshine Garcia defended her husband, Bulacan Vice Governor Alex Castro, and appealed to the public to give him a chance to do his job amid the criticism he is facing over severe flooding in parts of the province.
Bulacan is among the provinces that have experienced heavy flooding in recent days, particularly due to successive bouts of heavy rain brought about by the southwest monsoon or habagat.
To recall, Unang Hirit host Lyn Ching could not hide her frustration and made sarcastic remarks during a live broadcast showing the situation in Hagonoy, Bulacan, which was devastated by floodwaters reaching above waist-deep levels. This went viral.
Many areas of the province experienced flooding, and with this, Alex Castro, as well as Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando, received criticism for being in the position for many years already, but they haven’t addressed this issue, based on the article in Balita.
In a social media post on Tuesday, September 1, Sunshine Garcia stated that he understands the anger and frustration of residents directly affected by the flooding.
However, the actress-dancer said that this should not be blamed on her husband. “HAYAAN NATIN SYA MAGTRABAHO,” she said.
Sunshine shared that she previously thought that a politician in office could directly order the repair of anything needing attention in their jurisdiction.
However, she said she later realized that every government position has its limitations.
He explained that as vice governor, Castro’s work focuses more on laws and resolutions, although he still strives to assist with matters affecting Bulacan.
“Sa posisyon ni Alex bilang VG more on sa batas at resolusyon ang trabaho nya. Pero hindi sya nag stop duon lahat ng makakatulong sa Bulacan ginagawa nya…” she said.
Sunshine maintained that the public does not see everything her husband does.
She said that Alex works even when the cameras aren’t rolling and even at night, especially now with the continuing rain and flooding in some areas.
The actress-singer also said that her husband is aware that the public might pin the blame on incumbent officials whenever a disaster strikes.
While Sunshine Garcia acknowledged the public’s right to ask questions and demand accountability, she asked that it first be determined who exactly bears direct responsibility for the issues being discussed.
She also stressed that those directly involved or empowered to take the necessary measures should be held to account, rather than simply pinning all flood-related problems on Castro.
“MABUTING TAO SI ALEX AT KAMI NA NAKAKAKILALA SA KANYA ANG MAGPAPATUNAY NUON,” Sunshine said.
Sunshine also said that her husband started in a low-ranking position and did not simply inherit the post.
However, she also acknowledged that the vice governor’s ability to address issues such as road repairs and flood control is limited. She, on the other hand, noted that Alex continues to request that the concerned agencies discuss and take action on these problems.
Sunshine Garcia also asked the people of Bulacan to give her husband the chance to do his best for the province.
