Comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto is charged due to these violations.
The lawyer of comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto confirms that she has a warrant of arrest but stresses that she is a victim.
Last week of November, actress, businesswoman, and wife of Parokya ni Edgar lead singer Chito Miranda, Neri Miranda was arrested. She was arrested at a basement convention center inside a mall in Pasay City on November 23.
She is facing an estafa case in relation to Presidential Decree 1689 and 14 counts of violation of Section 8 of the Republic Act 8799 or the Securities Regulation Code.
Section 8 of the Republic Act 8799 or the Securities Regulation Code states: “No person shall engage in the business of buying or selling securities in the Philippines as a broker or dealer, or act as a salesman, or an associated person of any broker or dealer unless registered as such with the Commission.”
According to the statement of her legal team, Neri was not made aware of the arrest. She was just arrested by the authorities without accordingly giving her a chance to explain her side. This is not the first that charges like this filed against her. Complaints were filed before and all of them were dismissed.
Connected to the Dermacare business that got Neri arrested, comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto also faces arrest warrants because of this. According to Quinto’s lawyer, she is facing 14 counts of violation of Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code.
The lawyer also clarified that she is not facing a large-scale estafa complaint. She has a warrant of arrest and she will surrender and comply. After her voluntary surrender, they plan to post bail as the allegations were not true.
“Ni hindi sa kanya nakapagbayad ng downpayment, tapos ‘yung mga tseke po puro tumalbog. Lahat po ‘yan hawak naman po namin ‘yung ebidensya, ipe-present naming sa court,” Quinto’s lawyer, Atty. Mary Louise Reyes expressed.
Quinto is also thinking of filing a case.
Last year, the SEC released an advisory about Dermacare-Beyond Skin Care Solutions. The company is not authorized to solicit investments as they have no registration and license to do so. In the same advisory, SEC warned that salesmen, brokers, dealers, agents, promoters, influencers, and endorsers of Dermacare may be sued.
