Class Suspensions for Wednesday (November 13, 2024) Due to Typhoon Ofel and Severe Tropical Storm Nika
WALANG PASOK – Several local government units have declares class suspensions due to Typhoon Ofel and Severe Tropical Storm Nika.
On Wednesday (November 13, 2024), various LGUs have suspended the classes as Typhoon Ofel intensifies, and Severe Tropical Storm Nika continues to affect parts of the Philippines.
Though Nika exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on November 12, 2024, its residual effects are still being felt. Meanwhile, Typhoon Ofel’s approach has prompted additional precautions, especially in northern Luzon, where storm Signal No. 1 has been raised in some areas.
According to PAGASA, Typhoon Ofel has strengthened, and intense rains and strong winds are expected in affected regions, including potential landfall along the east coast of Cagayan or Isabela by Thursday.
Here is the list of areas covered by class suspensions:
Cordillera Administrative Region
- Benguet Province: Acupan Elementary School in Virac, Itogon – classes canceled due to a landslide
Region I (Ilocos Region)
- Pangasinan Province: No classes due to a local holiday
Region II (Cagayan Valley)
Cagayan Province:
- Alcala (all levels, public and private)
- Camalaniugan (all levels, public and private)
- Enrile (all levels, public and private)
- Lasam (preschool to senior high school, public and private)
- Santo Niño (preschool to senior high school, public and private)
- Solana (all levels, public and private)
Isabela Province:
- Cabagan (all levels, public and private)
- Cauayan City (all levels, public and private)
- Echague (preschool to senior high school, public and private)
- Santiago City (all levels, public and private)
- Tumauini (all levels, public and private)
Quirino Province: All levels (public and private) and government offices suspended until Thursday, November 14, in preparation for the typhoon.
PAGASA has advised caution, noting that intense to torrential rainfall is expected in Isabela and Cagayan from Wednesday through Thursday (November 14).
Typhoon Ofel was last tracked 475 km east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, and moving west-northwest and expected to make landfall along northern Luzon’s eastern coastline by Thursday. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety.
