GCash Elicits Reactions Online After Users Lose Money
GCash has been trending on Twitter after many users reported losing money due to unauthorized transactions.
Several complaints have surfaced, with people noticing that their accounts had been drained unexpectedly. The issue began when users discovered that large sums of money were being taken from their accounts without their knowledge or consent.
Affected users did not receive any OTP (One-Time Password) alerts, which are typically required for transactions, making the situation more alarming.
At this point, GCash has not released an official statement addressing the issue, but many people are advising others to transfer their money to a bank account as a precaution.
Some users have suggested that GCash may have been internally compromised, with reports stating that malicious actors were able to withdraw funds using a feature called “SEND MANY” without needing any OTPs or phishing links.
Unlike other similar incidents, where phishing links were involved, this case seems to be different as the affected users did not click on any suspicious links or share their OTPs.
The “SEND MANY” function, which has now been disabled, allowed funds to be transferred quickly and without much verification. This raises concerns about the app’s security. The situation is particularly troubling since GCash only allows one phone number to be linked to an account, making it harder for unauthorized access to occur.
Some speculate that OTPs and text messages may have been intercepted, or that there may have been a significant security breach within GCash.
In response, GCash has promised to refund all affected users within 24 hours, offering some relief to those who lost their hard-earned money. However, many are still upset and frustrated by the sudden loss and are hoping for stronger security measures in the future.
