Its Showtime host Ion Perez announced that he is withdrawing his candidacy for councilor of Concepcion, Tarlac.
The Philippines kicked off a new election season last October, which started with the filing of aspirants’ certificates of candidacy. The Commission on Elections began accepting COCs for the 2025 Midterm Elections beginning on October 1 and ended on October 8.
As much as we all know, in the Philippines, the start of the filing of COC is a ceremonial opening of the election season and things will surely peak in the coming months until the election day.
A lot of celebrities have filed to run for a local post – some of them are first-timers while some are seeking re-election.
Ion Perez is in the cluster of those considered first-timers in the political field. He submitted his COC to run as councilor of Concepcion, Tarlac. Before filing his COC, he oathed as a new member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition and since then, he has not released any statements regarding his political ambitions.
Over a month has passed, and he shared an update. In a video, he expressed that he is withdrawing his candidacy.
In his video, he thanked the people who supported and trusted him and added his formal statement about his plans to step back from pursuing his plans. According to him, he wanted to learn more in this field and he needed time to prepare so that he wouldn’t fail the people.
“Dahil gusto ko po munang ihanda and sarili ko para hindi mapahiya sa inyo at mapaglingkuran kayo ng tama,” he expressed.

Among the celebrities who are seeking re-election in the midterm polls and have already filed their COCs are Arjo Atayde for Quezon City 1st district representative, Alfred Vargas for Quezon City 5th district councilor), Alex Castro (Bulacan vice governor), Jolo Revilla (Cavite 1st district representative), Lani Mercado (Cavite 2nd district representative), Yul Servo (Manila vice mayor) and Jaycee Parker (Angeles City councilor).
