Cops Arrest 2 Individuals for Stealing Student’s Motorcycle in Quezon City
Two individuals were arrested for stealing a student’s motorcycle in Quezon City on October 4, following a swift follow-up operation.
According to reports, the student parked the motorcycle at a basketball court, and when he returned, it was already gone. Immediately after, the victim reported the theft to the barangay and the police station.
“Yung biktima po ay pinarada po niya sa basketball court at pagbalik niya wala na ‘yung motorsiklo so pagkatapos noon nagreport na agad ‘yung biktima natin sa barangay ganon din sa police station,” QCPD Anti-Carnapping Unit Chief Investigator Police Executive Master Sergeant Dennis Telen said.
CCTV footage revealed one of the suspects driving the stolen motorcycle away from the area. During the investigation, authorities managed to identify the suspect thanks to a witness who recognized him in the CCTV video.
The follow-up operation led to the arrest of both the motorcycle driver and an accomplice, both of whom were residents of the area.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Anti-Carnapping Unit shared that the suspects’ modus operandi involved stealing motorcycles, disassembling them, and selling the parts at a lower price.
Unfortunately, by the time authorities recovered the stolen motorcycle, only the engine and a few parts were left intact. The victim was able to confirm ownership through the engine number.
“Yung motorsiklo na ninakaw ay tinawag po natin cannibalized na chinop chop na po yung mga piyesa. Nakilala ng ating biktima ang motorsiklo na kanyang nawawala sa pamamagitan ng engine number,” Telen added.
To avoid becoming a victim of such modus, the police advised motorcycle owners to take extra precautions. They recommended never leaving the keys in the ignition, avoiding parking in dark or isolated areas, and always locking the steering wheel when parking.
One of the suspects declined to comment on the incident. Both individuals are currently detained at the QCPD-DACU, and they are likely to face charges under the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016.
