Man Lost His Life After Being Hit by Counterflowing Rider

A man walking on the Nagtahan Link Bridge in Manila lost his life after being struck by a rider who was counterflowing on the bridge.

Last Sunday (October 6, 2024), a 59-year-old pedestrian passed away during a tragic accident along Nagtahan Link Bridge in Manila. The man was walking along the bridge towards Sta. Mesa at around 10 PM when he was hit by a motorcycle.

The motorcycle rider was reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road, attempting to counterflow, which led to the fatal collision.

CCTV footage shows the pedestrian walking along the road when the motorcycle suddenly hit him. Due to the strong impact, both the rider and the pedestrian were thrown to the ground.

The pedestrian sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to the hospital along with the rider, but unfortunately, the pedestrian did not survive.

According to the Manila Police District, it’s possible that the rider didn’t notice the pedestrian because of the water splashing on the road from the rain. The area is known for frequent counterflowing vehicles, especially during nighttime.

A barangay officer confirmed that the rider had been counterflowing, which is why the pedestrian didn’t see him coming.

The victim was on his way to work, using the bridge as his route since there were no more trains operating at that hour. The rider, a 49-year-old man, admitted that he was counterflowing to take a shortcut.

He expressed regret, claiming that the collision was an accident and that he wasn’t speeding.
