Teenage Boy & Man in Cebu City Survive After Being Struck by Lightning
A teenage boy and a man suffered injuries after being struck by lightning in Barangay Pulangbato, Cebu City.
A lightning incident occurs when a person, animal, or object is directly affected by a lightning strike, either through a direct hit or by being nearby when the strike happens. Lightning is a powerful natural force, often occurring during thunderstorms.
When a person is struck, the electrical energy from the lightning can pass through their body, potentially causing serious injuries or even death.
People who experience a lightning strike often suffer burns, as the electricity can heat up the skin and clothes to very high temperatures. In addition to burns, lightning can cause damage to internal organs, disrupt the heart’s rhythm, or affect the nervous system.
Some survivors might experience long-term effects, such as memory problems, weakness, or psychological impacts.
Around past noon on October 5, 2024, a 17-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man along with another individual were out in the mountains gathering wood when a sudden lightning strike hit them.
While one of their companions was quick enough to dive to the ground and avoid injury, the teenager wasn’t as fortunate. He suffered burns across multiple areas of his body, including his face, shoulder, stomach, and legs.
The man who was with him also sustained injuries, specifically burns to his left foot. Both victims were immediately brought to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. Doctors addressed their injuries, providing care for the burns.

Luckily, the injuries weren’t life-threatening, and after being treated, both were allowed to return home to recover. The online community was thankful that despite the frightening experience, both the teenager and the man are now recovering.
